Jade Teahouse & Patisserie

Jade Tea House
7912 SE 13th Ave., Portland.

This amazing teahouse and patisserie is now serving up lunch with scrumptious recipes!

The family that owns this Sellwood restaurant is no stranger to the restaurant world.  Little did I know one of this family of three has attended my Landlord meetings for years.  They also created my favorite Tempeh dish now served in the area.  Talented!

The interior is fresh with beautiful natural wood and amazing light through the renovated windows.  This is  a great spot for casual business lunch or family dining.

While there try the Chili Wheat Noodles.  Not for the crowd watching their waist, but amazing.  Another home run is the Garlic Lemongrass Chicken.  I could not believe how fresh the vegetables were.  The experience is perfection.

Tryon Creek State Natural Area

July 13, 2009

Gavin and I went to Tryon Creek State Natural Area this weekend to enjoy a light hike, some fresh air, and walking the dogs.  This is an amazing nature-scape right within reach!  It was the perfect quick Sunday adventure.  They even offered free live music at 2pm.

Tryon Creek invites dogs on leashes.  Our lab and pomeranian loved it.  We started by parking at the equestrian parking lot, not far from the main lot.  It was not busy and had room to leash up “the boys.”  We headed out on Old Main Trail, a lovely walk that is mild to moderate, and at points crosses Tryon Creek.  The day was slow and lazy, not many visitors around.  The weather was perfect and so was the quiet.  You could hear and feel peace of mind while walking.  We connected to Middle Creek Trail and kept heading back in a circle, crossing High Bridge as we circled back.  When we came to the T that was Maple Ridge Trail we followed it, returning eventually to the Nature Center where there is a dog bowl for water and two nice public restrooms.

Tryon Creek offers 670 acres of day use natural area, including three miles of paved bikeway, running parallel to TerwillegerBoulevard.  There are two horse loops that give riders an opportunity to enjoy the peace that is Tryon.

If you are interested in a Sunday adventure, this makes the great dessert after lunch in Lake Oswego, or the perfect walk before a nice dinner.

For those interested in more information, the Visitor Nature Center offers a gift shop, park information, interpretive exhibits, and regular programs.  Many events are sponsored by Friends of Tryon Creek.  This is a non-profit group dedicated to conservation of the park’s natural environment.  You can find them at www.tryonfriends.org.

Tryon Creek is off I-5, Terwilliger Boulevard Exit, 503-636-9886.  Two buslines are close by, the #39 and #35.

Next week we are considering doing Powell Butte or Oxbow Park.  Wish us luck!
